Cyrus is an 8 year old, black and tan male Doberman that is cropped and docked.  He is up to date on vaccinations, neutered, microchipped, negative for intestinal parasites, and is heartworm positive.  He will be treated for his heartworms before going to his new home.

Cyrus came to GDR after his owner surrendered him in absolutely horrible condition to a local rescue.  They knew he needed a Doberman specific rescue to help find him the best home and help him recover, so he found his way to GDR.  Despite being emaciated, having a rotten tooth, having heartworms and tumors, Cyrus is a wonderful and loving boy. He is doing well in his foster home, but is a vocal so apartments and condos would not be right for him.  He barks often as he’s learning what it’s like to live indoors again.  He will bark for attention and bark at noises, so he needs an owner that will either tolerate or work with his pushiness.  That said, he is velcro to a fault, and wants to be pet and snuggled with at all times.  In fact, should you stop petting him, he will promptly remind you that he is still there and use that blunt-wedge of a head of his and shove it wherever it will get your attention and allow the petting to recommence. Despite what you may think about his age he has plenty of energy and loves to run and play fetch.  He will do okay with female dogs, but absolutely no other males as he has shown to dislike the other male foster in his home and has had to be kept separate at all times.  He has not been around cats, and no small kids since he’s on the taller side and doesn’t realize his size or strength.  There is no question he could accidentally knock over and injure a smaller child if he gets excited.
