Physical appearance: Angel’s birthday is 9/28/16 and she comes from a breeder in Serbia.  She is black and tan and cropped and docked and is a bigger girl, weighing in at about 70lbs.

Personality: We know looking at Angel, she is the dream Doberman for many of our applicants based on her appearance, however we will not adopt Angel to a home that does not have Doberman experience.  This girl has a much stronger drive than the average rescue Doberman and needs a home that knows how to harness it.  She is a wonderful and loving companion, but she is also very protective and needs to know she is absolutely not in charge.  If she is left to be in charge, there is a good chance that her protective behavior can become dangerous due to poor judgement.  Angel is OBSESSED with balls.  Soccer balls, basket balls, tennis balls, it doesn’t matter.  She wants every ball she sees, and she will try and drag her foster over to wherever she sees one, whether it’s her ball or not.  For this reason, we want Angel to have a fence.  She needs a yard that she can run and play with a ball without a care in the world.  She is best suited as an only dog, so she doesn’t have to compete for attention.  In her current foster home, she tries to guard the family against their other dog.

Why she’s in rescue: Angel’s breeder decided her breeding days were over and decided to surrender her to rescue to find her a proper home.  She was originally imported from Serbia specifically for their breeding program.

Manners and training: Angel appears to have never lived inside.  She was not potty trained when arriving in rescue but is slowly getting the hang of it.  The things she needs the most work on is impulse control and leash manners.  If she sees kids playing basketball while out on a walk, she will drag you through traffic to get to that ball.  Her focus is strong, and nothing will stop her.  That means her adopter is also going to need to be quite strong physically in order to have control over her while they work on this training.  This girl LOVES her crate and will go in there to relax with the door open.  She sees it as her safe place and will go in all on her own.  She is a fast learner with a strong aim to please and would really excel at something like obedience.

Vetting: All of our dogs are brought up to date on rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, neutered and microchipped before adoption.  Angel tested positive for heartworms when arriving at rescue and is currently undergoing treatment.  She will complete treatment before being adopted out.
