Physical appearance: Cruz’s birthday is 2/28/20.  He is black and tan with natural ears and a docked tail.

Personality: Cruz would do best with an experienced dog owner, and an experienced Doberman owner would be better.  Once he gets to know you, he is incredibly sweet and velcro and will be by your side and at your feet all day and night.  He is a goofy boy that loves to play and go for walks and adores his family.  The challenge with Cruz is when he meets new people, especially around his home.  He will bark and lunge, and while he doesn’t bite, he will sort of “headbutt” and grab at clothing to scare people away.  While this may come off as him trying to protect his family at first, he is incredibly insecure and is trying to scare people off.  His new family will have to be patient with him and not be afraid of him while he learns that they are not a threat and settles down.  Your patience will be rewarded with the most wonderful and loyal companion, but it won’t be the easiest road to get there.

Why he’s in rescue: Cruz belonged to someone who got him at the beginning of COVID.  When he could no longer keep Cruz, a friend took him in and made him a part of his family.  While they do love Cruz very much, taking him in was unexpected, and they know he needs more.

Manners and training: As with all dobies, Cruz is a smart boy that learns quickly.  He has been through training at “Frogs to Dogs” and if he is adopted to someone in the Atlanta area, his new family will also have the lifetime guarantee that come with his training. In his training he has learned to sit, stay, lay down, give his paw, come when called, and leave it.  He currently attends doggy daycare and LOVES other dogs.  In fact, a strong-minded and confident female would likely be a great role model for Cruz.  We don’t want him to go to a home with any dogs that are as insecure as he is since that will make it worse.  No cats, male dogs, or small children for this boy as he will chase a cat and knock over a small child.  He walks well on a leash when using his easy walk harness and would make a great running partner for someone who is active.  He is crate trained, and potty trained.

Vetting: All our dogs are brought up to date on rabies, Bordetella, and combo, negative for intestinal parasites and heartworms, neutered and microchipped before adoption.
