Meet Kokie: The Little Old Lady With a Lot of Love Left to Give

Hey there, I’m Kokie! I’m a 12-year-old black terrier with a greying muzzle, gorgeous golden eyes, and the kind of quiet, steady soul that only comes with age and experience. I’ve lived a good life — and I’m not done yet. I still have some get-up-and-go in me, and I have so much love to give to the right home. I do come with one important detail: I am a package deal with my best girl, Jussie. We’ve been together for over six years, and we go together — full stop.

Personality: I am a cuddler. If you sit down, I want to be next to you. On the couch, on the floor, wherever you are — that’s where I want to be. I love being petted, I love being close to my people, and I love food perhaps more than anything else in this world. Mealtime is a very serious event in my world. I know how to sit and I’m great on a leash — no drama, no pulling, just a pleasant little old lady out for her walk. I haven’t been heard to bark even once in my foster home, which tells you a lot about my temperament. I’m calm, I’m gentle, and I’m deeply content just being near the people I love.

My Story: I lost my owner — the person who loved me and Jussie for years — and that kind of loss is hard for a dog to understand. What I do know is that Jussie and I have each other, and that matters more than anything. We’ve been together for over six years. She is my constant, and I am hers. Separating us isn’t something we’re willing to consider — and honestly, once you meet us together, you won’t want to either.

Kokie & Jussie: Jussie is my younger, bouncier counterpart and I love her deeply — even when she’s being ridiculous. I’m the one who watches calmly from the sidelines while she and the foster’s Doberman wrestle each other senseless every morning. Someone has to be the dignified one. That’s me. I’m the dignified one.

Manners & Training: I know sit, I walk beautifully on a leash, and if you tell me “no,” I stop immediately and stand at attention like the good girl I absolutely am. I’m not going to cause chaos in your home. I’m going to be a sweet, calm, easy presence who just wants to be included.

Other Animals: My foster home has dogs and we’ve all gotten along just fine. Cats are an unknown — I haven’t been introduced to any in foster care, so we’d want to proceed cautiously there.

Health & Vetting: I’m spayed, microchipped, and up to date on rabies, distemper, and Bordetella. Heartworm negative and negative for intestinal parasites.
